Poetics of Plentitude
Rotterdam, Noord-Holland
2022
Looking at our built environment, we see that the bulk of what surrounds us is made from materials that have traveled far: through landscapes, economies and communities, each carries traces of its origin and journey.
The scale of material use in the built environment confronts us with abundance and finitude. Plenty is both overflowing and precisely enough. What can be used generously, and what demands care and restraint? How can this duality guide the choices embedded in the spaces we inhabit?
New, regenerative materials open possibilities, while finite resources demand thoughtful attention. Beauty is found not only in surface or form, but in origin, potential, and future life.
The exhibition explores the relationships between materials, knowledge, and craft. It investigates how materials shape and are shaped by human skill, observation, and ingenuity, inviting reflection on how abundance, restraint, and beauty coexist in the act of building.
