A timber frame carries the structure, while hemp-lime forms the walls, providing insulation, moisture regulation, and long-term CO₂ storage.
This compact house rests on a sturdy plinth with a robust foundation and features a lightweight zinc roof that mirrors Friesland’s skies. Lime plaster finishes the interior; the exterior remains untreated, maintaining its natural texture and permeability.
The building functions entirely off-grid. Rainwater is collected and filtered for use. A central stove supplies both heat and hot water. Compost toilets and a greywater system complete the closed cycle.
More than a residence, the house serves as a guesthouse, studio, and meeting place. It is a living example of natural construction and self-sufficient living, offering a space for learning and exchange.
